We have an update from the Maine Department of Public Safety on the tractor-trailer accident in Waterville.

As of 4PM, the wreck was removed and police say traffic should be returning to normal shortly.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesdman Steve McCausland, at 2:20PM, northbound traffic on Interstate 95 continues to be backed up in Waterville as crews begin work to remove the tractor trailer that has blocked the northbound side.

Troopers said it appeared that the truck’s driver, Paul Cusano, 54, of Epping, NH, was distracted and the truck struck the guardrails on both sides of the road and then jack-knifed on the KMD overpass, McCausland said.

According to McCausland, the truck, which was hauling golf tees, was destroyed. It was enroute to Pride Manufacturing in Burnham.

The driver was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, McCausland said. A small amount of diesel fuel spilled and was cleaned by DEP and the Waterville Fire Department.  Traffic diverted at the mile 127 exit is being allowed to cross Kennedy Memorial Drive and continue north on the Interstate. Troopers hope the wreck will be removed by the evening commute, according to McCausland.

Here is the original story.

Early reports from our listeners indicate that traffic is snarled near I-95 exit 127 in Waterville. Please use caution if near this area and use alternate route if available.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Steve McCausland, the wreck is on the Kennedy Memorial Drive overpass in the northbound lane and one lane is blocked.  No injuries have been reported, but troopers are now planning to detour all northbound traffic at the KMD exit while the wreck is cleared, McCausland said. Northbound motorists should expect significant delays through the afternoon.
