According to the Kennebec Journal, an area high school football coach has left his position partway through the season. And, as the Kennebec Journal reports, this isn't the first time this has happened.

The KJ says that Messalonskee High School's head football coach, Walter Polky, is no longer with the school's football program. It's reported that the school's athletic director, Chad Foye, will take the program over for the remainder of the season.

Polky, who was unavailable for comment, has left other football programs mid-season according to the Kennebec Journal. Polky was the head coach in 2016 at Spruce Mountain High School when he again abruptly left the program without divulging a specific reason. In 2016 he commented, 'I'm not getting into details because it's a lot of nonsense', in regards to leaving Spruce Mountain.

Polky has an extensive background with coaching football as he worked for years as an assistant coach with Bates College football program before leaving to pursue head coaching opportunities at Maine High Schools.

Messalonskee's Athletic Director, Chad Foye, also has an extensive football coaching background having served as an assistant to Cony's program for a decade. Additionally he was also the Cony boys hockey coach for 22 years the KJ reported Wednesday.

Foye told the Kennebec Journal about taking over Messalonskee's program for the remainder of the year,

“I’m working with those three coaches right now, and we’re trying to move forward and just kind of maintain the progress these kids have made all year. I’m doing what I can and fitting in where I can to help our kids.”
