It looks like Auburn could be getting a taste of those famous chicken sandwiches. Chick-fil-A, the Atlanta-based fast food chain known for its top-notch service and being closed on Sundays, is looking to open a brand-new location in Central Maine.

According to an article from the Kennebec Journal, plans are in the works for a 5,200-square-foot building with a drive-thru at 65 Mt. Auburn Ave. The proposal will go before the Auburn Planning Board for a public hearing on Monday, July 8 at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers.

If it gets the green light, this would be just the third Chick-fil-A in the entire state of Maine, joining locations in Bangor and Westbrook. And don’t expect it to pop up overnight either. The KJ reports that it’ll likely take about a year to build.

For those unfamiliar, Chick-fil-A has over 3,000 restaurants across 48 states (plus D.C., Puerto Rico, and Canada) according to the company's website.. They’re best known for their chicken sandwiches, buttery biscuits, friendly employees, and of course, being closed on Sundays due to the company’s Christian roots. The first Chick-fil-A opened in Atlanta back in 1967, but the now-famous chicken sandwich actually debuted in 1946 at a spot called The Dwarf House.

Even though they receive hundreds of location requests every year, Chick-fil-A only opens a select number of new restaurants annually. The KJ went on to say that their corporate real estate team picks sites based on expansion goals and market strategy—and apparently, Auburn made the cut.

We'll keep you posted as this develops... especially if it means waffle fries are headed our way!
