Death Of Teen In Machias Ruled A Homicide
Early Thursday morning, the Maine State Police responded to the death of a young man in Machias. Now, they have confirmed that the death has been ruled a homicide.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, at around 12:30 on Thursday morning, law enforcement investigated reports of what sounded like gunfire in the area where the teen was found. After investigating the area, sheriff's deputies were unable to find any individuals or vehicles that appeared out of place or suspicious.
Later, at just before 8 AM, a resident of High Street in Machias phoned police to report she found a deceased male on her lawn. The deceased is a 17 year old male from New York.
The press release explains:
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of what sounded like gunshots near High street at approximately 12:24 a.m. on November 4, 2021. The sheriff’s department responded to the area but did not locate any people or vehicles that seemed suspicious. At approximately 7:52 a.m., a resident of High Street was leaving her home when she saw a deceased male on the lawn. The police were called and responded. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was called and continues to investigate the circumstances of the death. The victim is a 17 year old male from New York. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy was performed Friday, November 5, 2021.

They are asking people who know anything about the case, or may have seen something / someone in the area around High Street in Machias between midnight and 8 AM on Thursday (November 4th), to call the Maine State Police at 207.973.3700 and leave a message for lead detective, Det.
