Driver In Fatal Maine Maritime Academy Crash Indicted

In early December of 2022, we are all shocked and saddened by the news that a fiery crash in Castine had claimed the lives of four Maine Maritime Academy students.

According to police, a 2013 Range Rover, that was driven by 20 year old Joshua Goncalves-Radding, of New York State, was traveling down Route 166 at around 2 AM on December 10th.  The vehicle left the road, hit a tree, and burst into flames.

As a result of the crash, 20-year-old Brian Kenealy of York, Maine, 21-year-old Chase Fossett of Gardiner, Maine, 22-year-old Luke Simpson of Rockport, Massachusetts, and 20-year-old Riley Ignacio-Cameron of Aquinnah, Massachusetts were all killed.

There was, of course, a lengthy and thorough investigation following the crash.  In the end, investigators determined that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.  The facts of the case were reviewed by the Hancock County DA's office and it was decided that the driver should be charged.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, the case was put before a grand jury and, on April 6th,  the jury chose to indict him on all counts.  A judge accepted these indictments earlier today (April 7th).

Joshua Goncalves-Radding has been indicted on four counts of Manslaughter, five counts of Aggravated OUI, two counts of Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon, three counts of Driving to Endanger, one count each of Criminal Speed, Forgery, and Unlawful Use of a License.

Joshua Goncalves-Radding will be formally charged with the crimes at a later date.  As far as we know, no court date has been set.
