Is it legal to do a random drug search in a high school? I'm not a lawyer, but I am a parent of an Edward Little student, and Edward Little High School is beginning random drug searches using a K9.

I would say I'm 99% for it. Why not 100%? Because kids are sly. Just because a dog finds dope in a locker or in someone's bag, it doesn't necessarily mean it's theirs. What is that saying, "possession is nine-tenths of the law?" That worries me a little. Have you seen 'The Breakfast Club'?

I like the idea in principle as it for the most part will keep students honest, but just because the police find something doesn't mean it is what it appears.

When I was in high school, I can remember one day as I was in class looking out the window, I saw a couple of officers pull up to the side door of the school and out they came with a dog to sniff lockers. I'm not sure there was probable cause of just a random check as I was not privy to these things at 16, but searches are not a new thing.

Will a "find" hold up in court? I'm not sure, but I'd rather have kids think twice before bringing drugs to school.

Yes, all but a few seniors are minors and I would like to sign a consent form before this does actually happen, but I would sign it.

What do you think, are random drug searches in high school okay to do in your eyes?
