My Kids’ Favorite Maine Funtown Ride is a Decades-Old Classic
When it comes to amusement parks in Maine, we're actually pretty lucky. Lucky in the sense that considering the state only has about 1.3 million people and is so large, we still have a few good-sized theme parks.
Take for example Palace Playland in Old Orchard Beach. Palace Playland is a staple of the Maine amusement park scene. Set right on the beach, it is the largest beachfront amusement park for hundreds of miles.
We also have York's Wild Animal Kingdom which is in a class all its own. It's basically a whole-ass zoo with an amusement park attached. A super-fun summer day out for the entire family.
However, the most recognizable and largest of all the parks in Maine is the decades-old Funtown Splashtown USA. Set just off Route 1 in Saco, Maine, Funtown Splashtown has over a hundred different attractions to keep families busy and smiling all day long.
And while the park has added loads of new rides and amusements in recent years, sometimes it's the old classics that keep bringing people back year after year. Whether it's the tilt-a-whirl or the Astrosphere, Funtown is home to dozens of nostalgic rides that have stands the test of time.
For my family, my kids in particular, that ride is the casino. If you're not familiar, the casino is over near the log flume and classic cars and is designed to look like a roulette wheel with seats on each colored number.
The ride starts by going forward a mimics a spinning coin. After a few minutes the ride comes to a stop and does a cycle in the opposite direction. While it's not the fastest, tallest or newest ride in the park, the Casino, at least in my kids' eyes, is the best part of the entire park.
Long Live The Casino.
