Game of Thrones Season 7 has us deeper in the dark than ever, but there may yet be corners of George R.R. Martin’s books to explore. Sherlock star Mark Gatiss confirms that Braavos’ Iron Bank-er Tycho Nestoris will have a role in Season 7, and possibly beyond.

Gatiss has only appeared in two episodes to date, the last of which took place in Season 5’s “The Dance of Dragons.” Nevertheless, the Sherlock and Doctor Who writer tells the UK’s Express that Tycho will appear in two of the seven episodes this year, with two more potentially filming beyond that in Season 8:

Yes, I did it in Belfast last year. I can’t tell you anything more obviously, mostly because I don’t know anything. It was lovely. What I love about it is that I don’t have any stake in it … I honestly don’t know the ins and outs. People ask me this, that and the other, I haven’t got a clue. I’ve done four episodes now and there’s two more they think. It’s a huge saga and I don’t know and I rather like that. But I’ve had a lovely time. The last scene I’m in with - I probably can’t say because it would be a spoiler, wouldn’t it?

The character first appeared in Season 4’s “The Laws of Gods and Men,” as Stannis and Davos appealed to the Iron Bank to fund their efforts to retake the crown. Gatiss briefly reprised the role in Season 5, though it’s worth noting that the literary counterpart of Tycho Nestoris has visited both The Wall and Winterfell, which could provide a clue to Gatiss’ role in Season 7.

Back in 2015, here’s what Gatiss said of sitting out Season 6:

I have hopes [to return]. I had dinner with Dan and David when we were in Croatia filming last year and I made what I thought was a very cogent pitch to be the last character alive in the whole saga. There should be a crane shot, everybody’s dead except me. Because, clearly, the only person who can survive is the bank … They smiled knowingly and probably made a note to organize my imminent death.
