A Fiery Car Crash & Simultaneous Apartment Fire Leaves Gardiner Area Fire Departments Scrambling
According to the Kennebec Journal, Gardiner and surrounding fire departments had a busy morning on Tuesday as another call came in while responding to the first.
At around 4 AM on Tuesday Gardiner Fire Department was toned out to a call of a car accident on Route 201 near the smoke shop. When they arrived they found that the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and actually crashed into the smoke shop building, igniting the car on fire.
Gardiner called for assistance from other departments so Randolph and Pittston began responding. While the other departments were responding to the initial car fire call, another 911 call was received about a developing fire at an apartment complex at 36 Brunswick Avenue in Gardiner.
The other responding departments that were headed to the car fire at the smoke shop were diverted as they were coming across the bridge and sent to the Brunswick Avenue fire. Fortunately the fire at the apartment complex was quickly brought under control. Reports indicate that fire was started by an electrical issue between the first and second floors.
