Even though thousands of people have had great success with completely online college programs, others are far more comfortable with an in-person college experience.  Even for those who have been raised using social media and having internet access on their phones, there is something beneficial about spending time in the classroom with your fellow students.

That was why the college center at the Marketplace Augusta was such a benefit to the area.  As early as 2016, the building at 14 Marketplace Drive was occupied by Kaplan University.  Later, the location transformed into a brick-and-mortar class space for Purdue University Global.

However, it now looks as though as the well known college has closed the doors of its Augusta branch.  During a recent drive past the space, I noticed the signage was off the building and the sign was down.  Based on a spin through the parking lot, it looks like the building is now mostly deserted.

A check of the Purdue website still shows the Augusta location as being open, but a call to the provided phone number for the location got us a different answer.  The young woman who answered the phone did not have many details, but did say she could not find a listing for an Augusta branch of the college.

And, according to a leasing agent for the Marketplace at Augusta, the Purdue location will soon be available.  According to Nick Margitza, the 20,000 square foot, free standing building will soon be available.  You can get more details by email him at Nicolas.Margitza@wsdevelopment.com

Fortunately, you can still take classes from Purdue University online.

If you really want to take classes in-person, there are several great colleges in Central Maine.  These include the University of Maine Augusta, Kennebec Valley Community College, and Central Maine Community College.
