The demolition of the former Martel School at 880 Lisbon Street in Lewiston is set to take place soon and we now know what is going to be constructed in it's place, according to WMTW.

Lewiston Housing is finalizing their application to MaineHousing for the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit to help with the construction of affordable apartment buildings for older adults in Lewiston.

What is the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit?

This tax credit encourages the construction of affordable housing for low-income families through tax incentives, according to Tax Policy Center.

Lewiston Housing posted the update with the rendering of the buildings on their Facebook page.

Martel Apartments will replace the former Martel School and will offer 44 housing units. These apartment buildings will be accessible to older Mainers earning less than 50 or 60 percent of the area median income, as WMTW reports.

The article goes onto say that there is going to be twenty-seven units, and they will offer residents project-based vouchers. By doing that, it will help folks to pay 30 percent of their adjusted monthly gross income toward rent.
