The holidays are a time for giving and love and in our festive state of Maine, showing your appreciation to those who provide is a cherished tradition.

But how do you know who should be tipped a bit extra or even at all this year? I see my esthetician every month, and she always makes me feel beautiful.

But with the holidays approaching, you may wonder, am I supposed to tip extra? The answer is simple: if you feel grateful and want to spread a little extra cheer, go for it!

There’s no hard rule saying you must tip more during the holidays, but it’s certainly a thoughtful way to show appreciation.

I don’t think there should be a strict rule on how much to tip because it really depends on the situation. However, knowing who does deserve a little extra love during the holidays can be super helpful. I mean, I love shopping at Walmart, but do I tip my cashier? Nope. For big retail stores like that, the best way to spread goodwill is by leaving a positive review online.

However, not all retail shops are off the table. In some of Maine’s smaller communities, there are wonderful locally owned shops you’ve grown to know and love. If you want to give an extra tip or a special gift to those hardworking folks, go for it, it's appreciated!

And what about federal workers like our trash collectors and mail people? Well, this is what I am here for, to answer those questions for you, based on the guide that Fidelity has recently put out.

This holiday tipping guide, according to Fidelity and combined with my point of view, show you the types of professionals and businesses in Maine that often receive a little extra holiday cheer in their wallets during the season.
