I am a card carrying member of the National Rifle Association. I do believe they are out to protect the second amendment. I don't agree with all they do and all they stand for. In fact, I think some of what they call for is pretty unreasonable...

Here in Maine, they're pushing for the passage of the bill that would allow concealed carry without a permit. Really? I'm a big supporter of gun rights but do I want someone who's never handled a gun or taken a safety class running around with a gun inside his (or her) pants? I'm gonna say, NO. They're also against background checks at gun shows. With lack of these checks being pretty well known, where do you think criminal minded nutjobs are going to get their weapons? That's right. At a gun show!

At the risk of alienating fellow gun enthusiasts, I have to draw a line somewhere and this is it. For the most part, I don't have a problem with universal background checks. Also, I like the idea that, in Maine, you need to take a firearms safety course and get a permit before you can carry concealed. My wife and I have both done the training course and gotten our permits. So should everyone else who wants to carry.

How do you feel? Let me know!
