Hannaford Announces Completion of Major Renovations at Store in Gray, Maine

According to an article on the Maine Biz website, after the better part of a year, the massive renovations at the Hannaford store in Gray, Maine have been completed.

The article explains that the updates and renovations to the Hannaford Supermarkets store, which is located on Shaker Road, included adding new departments, upgraded amenities, and energy-efficient features.

The project expanded the store by about 12,000 square feet, bringing its total size to roughly 42,000 square feet. The larger footprint allows for expanded produce, meat, and seafood departments, along with a wider selection of grab-and-go meals, dairy products, and frozen foods.

The renovation also included a larger parking lot, a second customer entrance, new self-checkout registers, and upgrades to the pharmacy, including a private consultation room for immunizations.

Hannaford says the project also focused on sustainability by incorporating energy-efficient improvements designed to reduce carbon emissions. Those upgrades include a carbon dioxide refrigeration system and electric cooking equipment.

The expansion was built by Saco-based PM Construction, with work beginning last fall. The store remained open throughout construction.

Hannaford operates 188 stores across Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont, including 68 locations in Maine. The company employs nearly 30,000 people throughout the Northeast. Founded in Portland in 1883, Hannaford became part of the Dutch-Belgian food retailer Ahold Delhaize in 2000.

The company says it donated nearly 29 million pounds of food to hunger relief organizations in 2025 and supported about 145 community partners across its service area.
