Even though we have been dealing with scammers for years, scams have gotten way more prevalent in recent years.

It seems like we are hearing about a new scam every few days.  And recently, the scammers have gotten way more brave.  In some cases, we have heard about scammers showing up at people's homes.

One of the latest scams to hit Maine really shows how brazen some scammers have become.

According to a post on the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, there is a scammer who has been contacting people in Central Maine claiming to be a Kennebec County Sheriff's Department deputy.

The post, which explains that the scammer is calling themselves Deputy Chad Hendricks, says:

He has called multiple people telling them they have missed federal court, and He is asking for money to keep them from being arrested.

The post goes on to explain that no person by that name works for the Kennebec County Sheriff's Department, and that the department will never ask for money in exchange for not arresting you.

Many people in this situation would instantly recognize this as a scam.  However, we need to keep in mind that these scammers are often very persuasive.  If you ever encounter a situation that does not seem right, always use caution.
