The list of laws on the books in Maine is always evolving.

Each year, new laws are added, old laws are abolished, and changes are made to current laws.

In some cases, however, outdated (or completely nonsensical) laws are ignored instead of being taken off the books.  Check out a list of crazy Maine laws HERE.

Each year, dozens of new laws are added to the Maine law books.  Instead of breaking down each new law, we’ve put together a list that highlights some of the more important new laws and memorable additions.

Of course, the most notable law on the list is the new three-day waiting period for people who want to purchase a firearm.  As we live in a state that loves to hunt and target shoot, this law is a big deal.  Proponents are looking for a way to deter those who would use firearms to commit violent acts.  Opponents point out that the law has a detrimental effect on people who deal in firearms for a business, and that it makes it impossible to have gun shows.

Other laws on our list deal with the ability to ‘compost’ your deceased loved one (yes, it’s a thing), clarification on portable toilet rules, and preventing paramilitary training camps from popping up all over the state.
