It’s Official! Popeyes in Augusta, Maine is Now Open

Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen, or as most of us call it, Popeye's Fried Chicken, is now open in Augusta, Maine!

If you are like me, am aficionado of fried chicken, you have been waiting for this day for the better part of a year.  It was back in June of 2025 that we learned there was a good chance that a Popeye's would be built in the spot left by the demolition of the Friendly's.  That restaurant had closed in 2019 and was torn down in 2023.

The new location, which is located at 48 Western Avenue opened for the first time today (May 21st).

According to a post on the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce Facebook page, the new eatery will be officially welcomed to the community with a ribbon cutting ceremony.  That ribbon cutting will take place at the Western Avenue location at  at 10 AM on Friday, May 22nd.

In addition to fried chicken, the restaurant features chicken tenders, fries, biscuits, mac & cheese, and red beans & rice.  They also sell the best apple pies - because they are deep fried!  Check out their menu and learn more at the Popeye's website.
