This Family-Friendly Wiscasset, Maine, Holiday Festival Has Ice Carving, Cookie Challenges and More
During the holiday season, festivities are happening all over the state of Maine, and you're probably trying to pick which ones to visit.
There's a family-friendly one called the Wiscasset Holiday Marketfest, the weekend of December 5 through 7, that truly has something for everyone.
A few things that set this Wiscasset festival apart from other Maine events are the unique activities and traditions you’ll find here, and I've highlighted a few you won't want to miss.
Wreaths Around the Holidays at the Wiscasset Holiday Marketfest
“Wreaths Around the Holidays” is a beloved annual tradition at the Wiscasset Holiday Marketfest featuring wreaths decorated by Wiscasset-area businesses. Shoppers can vote for the People’s Choice wreath inside the Nickels-Sortwell Barn on Federal St., and afterward, the wreaths are donated to local long-term care facilities.
This takes place on all three days of the event.
Santa's Block Party at the Wiscasset Holiday Marketfest
At 5 p.m. Friday, December 5, Santa’s Block Party begins at Scout Hall.
This is the perfect celebration for kids: hot cocoa, seasonal treats, holiday crafts, woolly sheep for petting, and a fire pit for s’mores. YUM!
Food will be available, and for adults, there’s a holiday biergarten featuring warm spiked drinks.
The light parade starts at 5:30 p.m., with Santa arriving in one of the sparkling, lighted floats.
Ice Carving at the Wiscasset Holiday Marketfest
One of the coolest events is live ice carving in the village, which is on Saturday, December 6. You can watch Ice Artist Tim Pierce carve on the sidewalk in Wiscasset Village from 12 to 2 p.m.

Horse-Drawn Wagons at the Wiscasset Holiday Marketfest
From 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, and Sunday, December 7, you and the kids can take a ride on horse-drawn wagons around town or to shuttle you to your village destinations.
These rides are so festive and make for the perfect family photo opportunity.
Christmas Cookie Challenge at the Wiscasset Holiday Marketfest
At 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, you’ll want to check out the Christmas Cookie Challenge. This isn’t just any cookie contest; home bakers and talented bakers from local bakeries compete as a panel of judges selects the winner.
Of course, be sure to check the website for a complete list of the times and locations of all the events and workshops taking place over the weekend.
I love how so many towns have their own holiday traditions to get the community involved and help bring Christmas cheer to everyone! Is there a holiday festival you love checking out?
