Skowhegan Transforms Into Skow-Whoville for a Weekend of Grinchy Christmas Fun
It’s a cold, crisp Friday evening, and you and your family are looking for an exciting Christmas event to explore. You don’t want to travel far, and it feels like the perfect chance to get out of the house and soak in some holiday cheer. You recently introduced your kids to the classic Grinch movie you loved growing up, so why not bring that story to life?
From December 5–6, Skowhegan, Maine transforms into Skow-Whoville!
In previous years, thousands have gathered for the Skow-Whoville parade and festivities. The weekend kicks off with the annual parade on Friday at 6:30 p.m., where kids can spot the Grinch, Martha May, and even Mr. and Mrs. Claus. The town lights up with floats, music, and Christmas magic.
If your kids haven’t seen How the Grinch Stole Christmas yet, Spotlight Cinemas at the Strand will be showing it at 4:30 p.m., along with several other showtimes throughout the weekend, as well as other iconic Christmas movies for the kids, and admission is completely free! It’s the perfect warm-up for Saturday’s big celebration, which is filled with Grinch-themed fun for the whole family.
Saturday’s activities run throughout the community, so be sure to check their website for locations and times. From 10 a.m. to around 1 p.m., families can enjoy the Skow-Whoville Stroll, featuring a long list of festive events. Highlights include meeting the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who, hot cocoa, Grinch photo ops, Grinch games, face painting, cookie decorating, and wreath-ornament making. Two crowd favorites are the horse-and-carriage rides and the Grinch scavenger hunt.
You’ll also find family crafts, coloring stations, and even a Santa Claus story time. With so much happening all weekend long, Skow-Whoville is a perfect way to jump into the holiday season, just don’t forget to check the website so you don’t miss a thing.
