Whether you are into skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobile/ATV riding, it's going to be difficult to find a better place in the country than Northern New England.

Even with the extreme lack of snow from this past winter (or whatever that was), the normal hotspots for large dumpings of snow still had enough natural snow and cold enough temps for manmade snow to keep skiers and riders happy throughout most of the season.

Having grown up in North Conway, not far from Mt. Washington, it wasn't at all surprising to see USA Today readers recently ranking the popular ski town as the #4 best in the country. Although there is technically only one ski mountain in North Conway (Cranmore), there are several nearby, with North Conway likely being the most popular for skiers and riders to stay while up visiting. Also nearby are options like Wildcat, Attitash, Bretton Woods, Black Mountain, and King Pine.

If you've visited the valley of North Conway, you likely know that it really is a winter paradise for ski enthusiasts. Those perfectly-groomed trails get them up early in the morning for a full day of carving through powdery perfection. With lots of snow throughout the season and something for every skill level and preference, people flock from all over the world to hit the slopes, with some even owning seasonal homes in order to make it easier to enjoy longer stays.

In addition to all of the skiing options, North Conway also offers snow tubing, ice climbing, ice skating, as well as winter hiking and scenic horse-drawn sleigh rides throughout the White Mountain National Forest.

All of this said, whether you're seeking adrenaline-pumping adventures on the slopes or just some relaxing moments viewing some of the best snow-covered landscapes, this timeless, small-town gem is where it's at, bringing outdoor enthusiasts back year after year.
