There's no way I would have guessed that New Hampshire made the number 1 spot on a list of the best destinations for pizza.  What does that say about New York or Chicago pizza?  Well, according to an article that I read in travelandleisure.com, it's true.

Here's How It Was Determined that NH Is the #1 Destination for Pizza

The article says to find out what state was the best pizza destination, the study analyzed the number of pizzerias per 100,000 residents and how much those residents love pizza.  Data from Google searches was also used.

One more factor was taken into consideration and that was the cost of the pizza.  After looking at all the states, New Hampshire came out on top.

Where Did New York Fall on the Best Destination for Pizza List?

You might be surprised that New York ranked at 29th.  There are people who swear that New York is Number One in every survey done in relation to pizza, but there is a reason why it ranked so far down the list.

The Big Apple's cost of a slice of 'za is $19.73.  That's one of the most expensive prices in the entire country.

You can get an entire specialty pizza at Pizza By George in Raymond, New Hampshire for about $16 bucks.  Less than the cost of one slice in New York.

Travel and Leisure quoted the original study by Maine Lobster Now to further explain the outcome of New Hampshire landing in the Top Spot:

New Hampshire is the ultimate destination for pizza lovers. With 1,022 pizzerias, that works out to an impressive 72.73 pizzerias per 100,000 residents—the highest in the dataset,.  Add in the high pizza enthusiasm of 22,512 pizza-related searches per 100,000 residents and a wallet-friendly average pizza price of $15.74, and you've got a state that ensures pizza enthusiasts have ample options at relatively affordable prices.

There you have it.  We here in the Live Free or Die state love our cheap pies. Maybe we should change our state motto to: "Live Free on Wicked Cheap 'Za or Die." Just a thought.
