Toilet Paper Roll: Over or Under? This Hampton, New Hampshire, Tavern Has Opinions

The toilet paper debate is one that has gone on for generations. Whichever way you sway, chances are, you feel pretty darn passionate about it.

I have a friend who has confessed to me that if she is going to the bathroom at a friend's house or at a restaurant and the toilet paper roll is under, she will take it off and "fix it" so it is over. She can't even look at it.

A Redditor recently went off on the overhanging toilet paper people of the world, and they rose some pretty important points:

1. When the TP roll is over, the loose piece can be hard to find. We've all had to dig into a toilet paper roll with our fingernails to get it started in a pinch. Whereas the under method always leaves a nice piece just hanging, waiting there, because gravity.

2. Cats and children have a more difficult time unraveling the entire roll of TP onto the floor when it's hanging under.

3. Some would argue the under method is more aesthetically pleasing. It has that iconic  TP look, if that's what you are going for.

4. There are rumors that over-hanging may be more sanitary. However, if you really think about it this might not be the case. Public restrooms overwhelmingly have dispensers hanging parallel to the wall, eliminating the hand-to-wall contamination. Additionally, even if it is perpendicular to the wall, cheap TP and the over-hanging method still results in fumbling around with the roll to get a piece, increasing the likelihood of hand-to-wall contact. Under-hanging increases the likelihood that a square will be hanging and ready for the grabbing.

I was celebrating the weekend at the legendary 401 Tavern in Hampton, New Hampshire, the other day, and saw a sign in the bathroom that cracked me right up.
