Is New Hampshire’s Most ‘Unusual’ Town Really That Unusual?
We New Englanders are lucky to live in one of the best parts of the US.
Over the years, countless platforms have directed high praise towards our region. We've received shoutouts for having some of the hottest zip codes, most underrated destinations, best places to live, coolest, coziest, and most charming towns, and so on.
Now, the website ALOT Travel has shared a list of the most unusual towns in every state. In their words,
These places hold stories, traditions, and monuments that are sometimes a little off the beaten path – not many of these places are at the top of vacation bucket lists. But that doesn’t mean they’re not worth a visit!
Based on that description, we're not sure if 'unusual' is the right word to describe these places. Perhaps 'hidden gem' is a better-fitting phrase? Either way, their choice for New Hampshire has us a bit confused, courtesy of the reasoning.
Gorham, New Hampshire
Apparently, Gorham is the state's most unusual town, and it's all thanks to one animal: the moose. The animal's iconic status in the Granite State is especially apparent in Gorham, which "is sure to bring some magic back into your life with its awe-inspiring herds," according to ALOT Travel.
Basically, the travel website states that Gorham is unusual cause of moose. They're totally right in that the town appeals to moose watchers eager to witness these majestic wild animals in their natural habitats. After all, Coös County is where you'll find a majority of New Hampshire's moose population, according to the Appalachian Mountain Club.
But does that make the town 'unusual'? We think that's a bit of a stretch.
Regardless, if you're looking to spot some moose in action in Gorham, be sure to check out Gorham Moose Tours, "The North Country's longest-running Moose and Wildlife Tour!" These folks are the real deal, and have lots of positive reviews to prove it.
