Maine Schools Get Email Threats, All Hoaxes

Threats emailed to Maine schools on Thursday are all hoaxes, according to Maine public safety officials..

"The Maine Information Analysis Center (MIAC) is aware of multiple threats directed toward schools in Maine. The emails sent nationwide were deemed to be hoaxes," spokeswoman Shannon Moss said in an email. "The MIAC will continue to report any updated information or events related to this issue for situational awareness."

WMTW TV reported 70 schools in Maine received threats, including RSU 21 in Kennebunk, which also serves Arundel and Kennebunkport. The district was put on "hold in place" status while a search was conducted by police, district officials told WMTW.

Moss would not confirm the number of schools affected or the states that also received threats.

No threats were received by any New Hampshire schools, according to the New Hampshire Department of Safety.

"We encourage schools to continue to work in partnership with their local first responders to conduct trainings and exercises on their emergency operations plans to be prepared for any hazard that may arise," spokeswoman Vanessa Palange told Seacoast Current in an email.

Threats were made against 10 Maine schools in November 2022 about an active shooter that also turned out to all be hoaxes.
