Jay Z and the Weinstein Company’s recent partnership is generating several noteworthy projects; the latest of which is for television. Hov is set to produce a NBC drama about Nicholas Irving, the first African-American to serve as a special ops sniper in the U.S. Army.

The six-hour miniseries is based on Irving’s memoir, The Reaper: Autobiography of One of the Deadliest Special Ops Snipers. Irving was nicknamed “the Reaper” for his excellent sniper abilities while serving in the U.S. Army 3rd Battalion infantry. He was so effective that he had an AR-15 named after him. During a four-month period in mid-2009, Irving registered a whopping 33 kills as a master sniper.

Actor Sterling K. Brown, who recently won an Emmy for his portrayal of Christopher Darden in the FX miniseries The People vs O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, will play Irving in the drama.

“The series will take a look inside the life of the world of special ops. The plan is to start filming early next year,” a source told the New York Post.

The rights to the book were acquired by the Weinstein Company, which partnered with Jay Z to produce television and film projects.

Among the projects Hov have in development include a Richard Pryor biopic (with Lee Daniels attached to direct) and a HBO movie about Emmett Till's life.
