Maine’s ‘Blue Collar Author’ Celebrates New Book With Boothbay Harbor Launch Party

Maine author Jerry Farnham is preparing to bring his popular Red at Night series to a close with the release of his fourth and final book, Last Light.

The Boothbay Harbor native’s newest novel continues the story of the Finn family and brings together storylines that began in the first three books, Red at Night, Red in the Morning and First Light.

Last Light blends mystery, romance and humor with the coastal Maine setting that has become a hallmark of Farnham’s series. The book once again centers heavily on Jack Finn and Melissa Andrews while exploring the consequences of past decisions and revealing secrets that have followed the characters throughout the series.

While longtime readers will get answers to questions and storylines developed across all four books, Farnham says the newest installment can also stand on its own for readers discovering the series for the first time.

To celebrate the release, Brady’s Restaurant at 25 Union Street in Boothbay Harbor will host “Last Light with Maine’s Blue-Collar Author” on Saturday, October 3, beginning at 4 p.m.

Fans will have an opportunity to meet Farnham, have copies of Last Light signed and meet some of the local personalities who helped inspire characters featured in the books.

The launch party will also feature live music from midcoast Maine acoustic guitarist and vocalist Brett Slater. Slater performs a mix of folk, rock and singer-songwriter favorites ranging from the 1960s through today, along with song parodies, yacht rock and his popular collection of dad jokes.

Readers planning to attend are encouraged to purchase Last Light ahead of the event. Copies are available through Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shops, Amazon and Farnham’s website. A limited number of books will also be available during the launch party.

Farnham grew up in Boothbay Harbor and began working aboard his father’s lobster boat when he was just six years old. He later served in the U.S. Navy.

Now living in Gorham with his wife and two children, Farnham balances writing with his day job and describes himself as “Maine’s Blue Collar Author.” Outside of writing, he enjoys archery, working on his Jeep and reading books by other authors, including fellow Maine writer Tim Cotton.
