Olympian and Augusta Native, Julia Clukey, to Retire from Luge
Augusta native and former Olympian Julia Clukey will announce her retirement from luge this (Aug. 9) afternoon. A press conference will be held at the Kennebec Valley YMCA.
Longtime friend of the Moose Morning Show, Julia, 31, was a silver medal winner at the 2013 national championships. She also earned two top-10 World Cup finishes.
She has competed in luge at the highest level for 19 years, finishing 17th in the 2010 Olympics and also won two silver medals in World Cup competition.
Clukey has made many visits to the Moose Morning Show through the years not only talking about her training and competitions, but she is so proud of her work with area schools as a motivational speaker, as part of her “Julia Inspires” campaign. Also, for the past five years, she has run 'Julia Clukey’s Camp for Girls' on Maranacook Lake in Readfield.
Julia, thank you for always being an inspiration and a role model, for all of us.
