Maine Drivers Collide, Truck Crashes Into Bakery on Route 302
A vehicle accident Thursday afternoon resulted in a pick-up truck crashing into a local bakery on Route 302 in Bridgton, but thankfully no one inside the building was seriously injured.
According to WGME 13,, the incident occurred shortly after noon when a pick-up truck leaving Sandy Creek Road collided with an eastbound SUV traveling on Route 302. The force of the collision caused the truck to partially break through the exterior wall of The Cann Family Bakery and Specialty Foods, a popular local spot known for its baked goods and specialty items.
WGME confirmed that no customers or employees inside the bakery were harmed during the crash, although the structural damage left a noticeable hole in the building’s façade. Both drivers were treated for minor injuries at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
The news station said that the cause of the crash is under investigation. While accidents involving vehicles and buildings are rare in the area, Bridgton police emphasized the importance of cautious driving on local roads, especially near busy intersections and popular commercial areas like Route 302.
The bakery, a well-loved community fixture, may experience temporary closures or restricted access while repairs are made to the building. Local residents and customers expressed relief that no one inside was hurt and offered support to the business as it recovers from the unexpected incident.
