Maine Man Charged With Attempted Murder in June Shooting
A Farmington man has been indicted on multiple charges after allegedly shooting a woman in the face during a domestic dispute earlier this year. According to reporting from WGME 13, Gunthar Swan was formally indicted on charges of attempted murder, domestic violence aggravated assault, and domestic violence assault in connection with the June incident.
Police say the shooting happened at a residence on Fairbanks Road, where Swan and the victim became involved in an argument that quickly escalated. During the confrontation, Swan allegedly fired a gun at the woman, striking her in the face. The injuries were severe.
A GoFundMe created to help support the victim’s medical recovery states that the gunshot shattered her jaw and left her tongue so severely damaged that surgeons had to sew it back in place. The fundraiser describes a long, complicated healing process and extensive reconstructive work ahead.
Authorities say that immediately after the shooting, Swan threw the firearm into the dining room, where an 11-month-old child was sitting in a highchair. While the child was not physically harmed, police emphasized the level of danger the infant was placed in and noted it as an aggravating factor in the case.
WGME went on to report that Swan was taken into custody shortly after the incident and is currently being held at the Franklin County Detention Center. His bail has been set at $500,000. The case will move forward in court as the victim continues her recovery and investigators work to piece together the full sequence of events leading to the shooting.
