Maine City Reverts Back to Mandatory Masking For Indoor Settings

According to News Center Maine, Maine's largest city voted to return to an indoor mask mandate at a city council meeting on Monday night. The Portland city council voted unanimously to enact the mandate which will mirror a similar one in Burlington, VT.

The Portland mandate will now require all people, two and up, to wear a mask when in indoor public setting in Portland, Maine. However, businesses that force people to prove they're vaccinated prior to entry will be exempt from the mandate.

The mask mandate was passed as an emergency measure at the council meeting which means it goes into effect on January, 5th at midnight.

According to Portland Mayor, Kate Snyder,

"It's important to recognize we're figuring all of this out. We've never been here before. We're almost two years into uncharted waters, and unprecedented challenges,"

The Council also voted to end its 21-month-long state of emergency.
