According to the Kennebec Journal, a Maine couple from Union will be discussing grape growing during a virtual webinar event on Monday, March 1st.

Have you even been interested in growing your very own grapes? Or perhaps want to know more about what it would take to make your own homemade wine? Well here's your chance! Holly and Elmer Savage plan to talk about that very industry and the challenges they face doing so in a harsh Maine climate.

Owners of the Savage Oakes Vineyard and Winery, Elmer and Holly have been growing grapes since 2002. When they first began they were only producing a few different wine labels, fast forward to 2021 and that number has grown to a whopping 17. Wow!

They've grown their business to be so popular that it is now a tourist destination for both Maine natives and visitors alike. Not only do they make delicious wines, they also offer other local products as well as fun event including national acts. In 2017 they also became the very first Maine winery to be 100% solar powered after adding a 35kw array of solar panels to power the couple's operation.

If you want to attend this virtual talk about all things grapes, wine and living in Maine, you need to submit for an invitation by 3PM on Wednesday, March 3rd. Simply send an email to librarian@voselibrary.org.
