Maine Fire Fighters Cut Through Ice to Supply Water During Fire

What do fire fighters do when there's a blazing building on a sub-zero night and they need more water? Well, cut through the ice of course!

According to WABI TV 5, that's exactly what Maine crews had to do during a fire on Monday night in Etna.

Crews responded to a structure fire at around 7 PM on West Etna Road. Crews from Carmel, Newport, Newburgh, Levant, Plymouth and Northern Light EMS, all assisted in helping to contain and extinguish the blaze.

However, due to limited water supply and frozen lakes, Plymouth Fire Department had to drill through roughly a foot of ice to access water to keep the pumper trucks full.

Fortunately reports indicate that the building was empty and that no injuries were reported during or after the fire.
