
How One Maine Mom Became Her Son’s Lifesaving Hero
For so many of us moms, being a mother means protecting, nurturing, and literally giving your children everything you have and for one mom, that includes her kidney.
Susan Gross is a Maine mother who has risked her life, to save her sons, according to WGME.
Here’s the story
When Stephen was just three years old, he had an illness that led to kidney failure, which put him on a lifelong battle with declining kidney function.
For so many years he fought bravely but two years ago, his remaining kidney had failed and dialysis become his daily struggle.
Susan did not hesitate for a second saying,
“I think it’s that instinct of ‘OK, I’ve got to protect my child,”

As the report says, she was tested for months and finally confirmed that she was indeed a perfect match!
In that moment, Susan’s role as a mom become truly incredible, her kidney was then transplanted into her son at Massachusetts General Hospital.
She gave him his second chance at life.

“I make sure I spend time thanking you and the kidney for everything it’s given me,”
Even after all of that, she was so inspired by the life she saved, she became a competitive swimmer, even swimming in the 2024 Transplant Games of America.
Being a mom means also being a hero, and that is exactly what Susan is.
