A Weekend Made for Oyster Lovers

One of my favorite events of the summer is the Maine Oyster Festival in Freeport, happening June 27-28. As someone who absolutely loves oysters, this festival is the perfect way to celebrate one of Maine's best seafood treasures. Maine oysters are known for being incredibly fresh because they grow in our cold, clean waters, giving each oyster its own unique flavor. Being able to sample oysters from farms all along the coast in one place is something I look forward to every year.

What's New This Year?

This year's festival marks the fifth annual Maine Oyster Festival and includes a few additions, including a free shuttle service throughout the weekend, pre-order oyster tasting tickets, and several oyster farm tours and special events leading up to the festival. There is also a "Meet the Farmers" kickoff party on Friday night where visitors can meet the sea farmers behind Maine's thriving oyster industry.

More Than Just Oysters

While the oysters are the main attraction for me, the festival also features local artisans, food trucks, live music, educational exhibits, and opportunities to learn how oysters are farmed and shucked. It is a fun event for both seafood lovers and families.

The Maine Oyster Festival is a great way to experience Maine's coastal culture and support local oyster farmers. For me, there is nothing better than spending a summer weekend in Freeport tasting some of the freshest oysters Maine has to offer while enjoying the atmosphere of this unique festival.
