A teenage girl is dead following an early Friday morning crash in the town of Lowell.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, Maine State Police troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on Main Road in Lowell at about 12:20.

Investigators believe that the 2012 Chevy Sonic, which was driven by a 17 year old male from East Millinocket, failed to negotiate a curve in the road.  As a result, the vehicle crashed.

The driver and his front seat passenger, a 15 year old girl from Lincoln, were injured in the crash.  They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries

The back seat passenger, a 17 year old female from Lincoln, received fatal injuries.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The press release states that none of the three were wearing seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation.
