Here’s How Much Snow Maine Will Get Today as Schools Let Out Early
Even though it's going to get messy today we can all rejoice in the fact that their won't be heavy winds and more flooding, right?
As the snow begins moving into the Central Maine region, many people are wondering if this system will leave enough snow for area snomobilers, cross-country skiers and snow enthusiasts alike, or if it's just going to simply be a nuisance storm.
According to meteorologist, Christian Bridges, from WGME 13, it could go either way. Over the last couple of days, we've been watching the predicted snow totals slowly creep their way up as we keep an eye on the snowfall maps.
The latest information from Bridges, which was posted early this morning as the snow was just starting to fall in Southern Maine, showed another increase in how much snow the region was set to receive.
As the temps for today will hover in the mid 20s for most of us, the snow that falls will remain light and fluffy. Albeit not the best for making snowmen, but at least it's less likely that you'll keel over from a coronary, so that's good I do 'spose.
As far as snow totals, it looks like a decent amount of snow will pile up throughout the day before the snow moves out during the late evening hours tonight.
While parts of Northern Maine look like they could pick up closer to a foot of powder, much of the Central Maine and mid-coast region are likely to get at least half that. Enough for us to have to shovel the decks and plow the driveway, but not quite enough to make the sled trails any good.
However, if it remains cold enough long enough, this will make a really good base layer before we hopefully get a larger storm to lay down a top layer so we can get out and BRAAAPPPPP on the ol' Arctic Cats.
Stay safe and don't forget your kids' bus is probably coming early today. (Yay).
