One of the best part of being an adult (let's face it, there aren't many good parts, jk, kind of) is having a brain stuffed full of deep core memories from our childhood.

From our first trip to Fenway park, passing our drivers' permit test, to our first time on the pirate ship at Palace Playland in Old Orchard Beach, our childhood time in Maine is full of things we wish we could go back and do again. And, fortunately, at least with some of these things we can.

Now, let's get into the meat and potatoes of why we're here. You clicked in because I told you that the best way to cool off on a hot summer day in Maine is still embedded in your core memories- and I truly believe that.

Now, some younger folks (God, I sound so old) may disagree with me and say that jumping into the churning surf at Reid State Park is a far more exciting and thrilling way to cool down, but I would still disagree.

What I'm about to say is going to unlock that core memory. Are you ready? The Cool Zone at Funtown Splashtown USA in Saco, Maine. You know exactly what I'm talking about.

Situated between the 'pirate ship' and the famous Excalibur roller coaster is a big red canopy with Coca-Cola machines underneath it. But, this isn't just any ordinary red canopy. Nope- this is the Cool Zone. Up inside the canopy is a bunch of piping that takes water and expels it as a cool, refreshing mist. The kind of cool and shaded mist that parents absolutely love to stop and soak in any chance they get. This is the MOST underrated way to cool off on a hot summer Maine day.

Do YOU remember standing inside the cool zone? I mean after all, it's been around for literal decades, much like many of the attractions at Funtown. This is definitely a core memory for me- what about you?

And, if you're still not sure what exactly I'm talking about, take a look at the video below!
