Major Changes Coming to Maine’s Biggest Theme Park as Worker Shortage Looms
It's no secret that many businesses around the country, including right here in the Pine Tree State, are struggling to hire enough workers to efficiently operate. And, as sad as it is, some of Maine's most popular businesses will have to make changes to the way they operate this coming summer-season.
One of those popular businesses is the much-loved Funtown Splashtown USA theme park on Route 1 in Saco, Maine. For a couple of years following COVID, the park has struggled to operate with a completely full staff. This problem has been primarily due to a worker shortage. And, at least for this season, the park will be forced to make some major changes to the schedule they operate on.
According to WGME 13, the park, which typically requires just over 500 people on staff to be running at it's most efficient, currently only has about 200 people on payroll and ready to go for the upcoming 2023 summer season. As you can imagine, that's going to be a wicked big problem.
Funtown Splashtown USA is doing everything they can in the meantime to help build their staff, including making another increase to its starting pay and reminding possible applicants about some of the perks of working for the park. One of those perks, and probably the coolest one, includes a 'family-four-pack' of season passes.
According to WGME, because of this worker shortage, the park has already announced some operating changes for the 2023 season, not the least of which includes being completely closed on Mondays.
Funtown, which opens for the 2023 season on Saturday, May 27th, will not be open on Mondays due to the worker shortage. People may recall that last season (2022), the park had to intermittently make changes to their operating for the same reasons they're facing this year.
However, staff shortages aside, Funtown Splashtown USA is still getting ready for a fun-filled season of serving Mainers and 'folks from away' all summer long. If you're looking to pre-purchase your tickets to the park (which is recommended) just click here to purchase yours now.
See you at Funtown!
