Man Arrested, Charged in Connection to Weekend Shooting in Lewiston
A suspect is in custody following a weekend shooting that took place in Lewiston.
According to WGME 13, the suspect was originally thought to only be the victim in the shooting, however new details in the investigation reveal there is much more to the story than originally thought.
Police are now saying that the man they found shot on the scene, 32-year-old Wany Wany Anyit, is now a suspect in the case.
Officials arrived on scene at about 3 in the morning at 199 Bartlett Street, Lewiston, and found Anyit with multiple gunshot wounds. A gun that was found on scene was later determined to belong to Anyit.
What investigators have now discovered is that there was some sort of altercation between Anyit and two other people. A verbal altercation reportedly turned violent when Anyit opened fire on the other two. As the other two were running away they returned fire, ultimately striking Anyit twice.
Police tell WGME that Anyit is a convicted felon and has been charged with violations of conditions of release, reckless conduct with a firearm, refusing to submit to arrest and illegal possession of a firearm.
Police are still attempting to identify who the other two people were involved in Saturday morning's shooting.
They are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, or may have information regarding the shooting, to contact the Lewiston Police Department at 207.784.6421.
This is a developing story and we will keep details updated as they become available to us.
