Mariah Carey found herself in an odd spot during an interview with Good Morning Britain on Monday (October 2).

The singer was giving a remote interview with the show to promote her upcoming Christmas tour when word broke about the mass shooting at Las Vegas' Route 91 Harvest Festival on Sunday night. Country star Jason Aldean was performing when shots rang out.

The interview took a turn for the serious with Carey reflecting on the severity of the situation:

It's just awful. Again, I pray for the victims and hope that all of this can stop as soon as possible. I've spent a lot of time in Vegas. This type of thing happening anywhere is a huge tragedy. So I continue to pray for the victims and hope we have an end to this as soon as possible."

While Carey seemed to say the right things, people were bothered by the fact she remained on the show, lounging in front of a Christmas tree, while legions of victims had died or been injured in the shooting. Others, though, had sympathy for Carey, noting it was an uncomfortable spot for her.

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan offered no apologies for discussing the matter with Carey, claiming she's an artist who could offer valuable insight.

Carey herself tweeted her thoughts after learning about the shooting — she was just one of a slew of celebrities who voiced her thoughts via social media.
