When it comes to "battle of the states," it usually comes down to all of us arguing online about which state has the worst drivers and/or best pizza, right?

Have we ever really broken down which states in the US are the smartest based on IQ?

Well, worry not, because the rankings are, in and two New England states come in first and second place on highest average IQ.

Now when it comes to IQ or, intelligence quotient, we first have to understand exactly what it is, how it's measured and what it means to fall into a specific IQ range. Then, we'll apply it to the national standings and show you which states stood out above the rest.

According to Digg.Com, IQ is a measure of a person's cognitive abilities or intelligence in relation to their age group. It's typically assessed through standardized tests designed to evaluate various mental skills, including reasoning, problem-solving, memory, and analytical abilities.

The result of these tests gives a numerical score, with an average IQ score set at 100.

When you look at specific IQ ranges, they can vary based on person, region and even state. An IQ under 70 is considered to be significantly below average. A 70-85 is below average while 85-115, where most people fall, is considered the average.

Scores ranging from 115-130 are above average while people that score 130 and over are considered gifted and/or highly intelligent. So where did our favorite New England states place?
