January 7th is ‘National Old Rock Day.’ You'll see today is about old rocks as in igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic type rocks.  Old rocks and fossils aren't a lot fun to talk about at least now that school has let out for the day. So, I'll use the day as a springboard to talk about music. What is your favorite 'old rock' song or group? My favorite would be 'November Rain' by Guns N’ Roses, but I’ve already written about that. Old rock is relative, I suppose. So, for the purpose of relevance and my age, we’ll refer to old rock as rock from 1982 and newer.

A few of my favorites when it comes to old rock are, “Photograph” by Nickelback, Green Day’s “Wake Me Up When September Ends” and “Never Say Goodbye” from Bon Jovi.

As for bands, Black Crowes, Def Leppard, Van Halen, AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, Extreme (aside from “More Than Words”) and we’ll throw in Poison and Skid Row, as well. From the 90's I loved, Everclear, Smashing Pumpkins, Goo Goo Dolls and Third Eye Blind.

As for one-hit-wonders, my favorites include: 'Steal My Sunshine' from Len, 'What It’s Like' by Everlast and ‘The One And Only' by Chesney Hawkes. Remember that one? Another one-hitter I used to love was 'She Don’t Use Jelly' from The Flaming Lips.

Anyone remember Mitch Malloy or The Storm? Do the The Presidents of The United States of America ring a bell with their songs; 'Lump' and 'Peaches?' Check out a few videos below to make you laugh. Enjoy!
