It appeared the UMaine hockey team would pull out a win over Notre Dame in the first Alfond visit for the Irish as a Hockey East School. But that changed in the final :59 seconds. In a game that went back and forth all night, the Irish got the game tied with just :59 seconds left when Mario Lucia tipped the puck past UMaine goalie Sean Romeo for his 18th goal of the season. Neither team could score in overtime and had to settle for the tie.

It was the third straight overtime game for the Bears resulting in a loss and two ties. The game tying goal came just three minutes after Devin Shore gave Maine the lead when he scored for the 10th time this season. UMaine's other goal scorers were Blaine Byron, Will Merchant and Brady Campbell.

Maine is now 10-16-3 overall and 5-8-2 in Hockey East. The two teams wrap up the weekend series tonight at Alfond Arena.
