According to WGME, Fryeburg's Canal Bridge will be renamed for fallen Fryeburg PD officer Nathan M. Desjardins.

Desjardins died in the line of duty while helping with a water rescue on Memorial Day weekend of 2017.  The twenty year old was on his first day of water rescue training when he and another officer (Dale Stout) were thrown from their boat when it struck a submerged obstacle in the Saco River.  Desjardins and Stout had been helping with the rescue of three people thrown into the water following the capsizing of their canoe.  Desjardins suffered a head injury and died two days later.

According to Fryeburg Police Chief Joshua Potvin, the ceremony for the Officer Nathan Desjardins Memorial Bridge will happen at 2 p.m. Sunday, October. 28.
