Red Cross Nears Critical Blood Supply as Drives Cancel Nationwide
According to Mary Brant, external communications director for the American Red Cross, the cancellation of blood drives across the country his having a major impact. They are already down about 100,000 donations.
Mary says that cancellations are coming in at an 'alarming rate'. Through March 17th the Red Cross has seen nearly 4,000 blood drives cancel with the growing threat of Coronavirus. However, it's pandemics just like this one that require the Red Cross to have blood on its shelves- and lots of it.
The message is simple, clear and concise. The American Red Cross needs healthy donors who are eligible to give blood, and they need them now. As hospitals are predicting double capacity situations in the coming weeks they will the tools (and the blood) to execute the life-saving treatments that many Americans will be counting on.
