Auburn has a new spot for pet lovers, and I am so excited. It's no secret that I just welcomed a new furry family member, an Australian Shepherd Mini.

My son named him Moondog, and we are smitten. He is the best little guy ever.

He is currently 12 weeks, and both our ears perked up when we heard of this new store opening right across the bridge in Auburn!

It's called Scales & Tails, a locally-owned gem with the cutest name. It recently opened at 120 Center Street in Auburn, Maine, right next to Gippers Sports Grille.

According to the Sun Journal, the store is owned by Stephanie and Joe Cross. Stephanie has always been an animal lover, and get this: she's owned 81 animals in her lifetime. She also breeds mice, rats, and insects for reptiles.

Stephanie has a very long and extensive history in the pet store industry, and has worked at Pet Quarters and Pet Life, according to the newspaper.

The mission of Scales & Tails is so very impressive, with Stephanie telling the Sun Journal that she hopes to put the needs of her customers before anything else. She will source what you need, whether it's a specific bunny or exotic animal.

This shop truly stands out by prioritizing the well-being of both you and your pets, unlike other places which focus solely on sales. Their mission is centered around genuinely caring for the animals in our community, and meeting their needs with dedication.

Scales & Tails is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
