According to WCSH 6, some lawmakers in Arizona are trying to ensure graduating high school students will have at least a basic understanding of their finances.

The bill, SB1184,  would require students to take a required economics credit to graduate.  Part of that course would teach students how to manage their personal finances.

The bill was brought before the Arizona Senate Education Committee on Tuesday and passed with flying colors.  Next, it goes before the Arizona senate.

Personally, I love the idea.  Without having taken any courses on finances, I do okay.  But, that's only because I rarely buy anything unnecessary.  Had I taken a finances course in high school, I'd now probably be in a much better place financially.
