Yes indeed, you read that headline correctly. Art, in the form of Sturgeon (yes, the fish) will be headed for the capital city's downtown district.

According to the Kennebec Journal, a grant from T-Mobile to the Augusta Downtown Alliance is helping to fund this fishy project.

We're all so used to seeing these massive creatures leaping out of the waters of the Kennebec in the summertime as they attempt to attract a mate. That is what they're doing, right?

Yes, Sturgeon have been a longtime staple of our area for many many years. And now those fish that are so used to being in the water will be coming up onto dry land in downtown, Augusta.

The grant will help pay for the creation and installation of 25 life-sized sturgeon placed throughout the downtown area. The fish will not only be life-sized but also very colorful.

As far as where specifically these fish will be showing up in the city? Augusta Parks & Rec Director, Bruce Chase, told the Kennebec Journal,

“We’re going to want to put them in prominent locations around downtown, probably at the east side boat landing and a number of other locations. We haven’t decided on where those locations are at, at this point. We haven’t gotten that far in the process.”
