As we've seen with dozens of major Maine events, it was announced on Friday that The Dempsey Challenge would be virtual in 2020.

According to the Lewiston Sun Journal, the fundraising events, which had been scheduled to take place at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston, will not be held around the world.

Yes, the one big benefit of the virtual format is that people will not have to travel to Lewiston to take part.  They can do it from wherever they are in the world.

In 2019, the nearly 3,200 participants raised over $1.2 million for the Dempsey Center.  It is possible the online version could end up raising even more money for the non-profit organizations.

Started by actor Patrick Dempsey, whose mother was treated for cancer in Lewiston, the Dempsey Center offers support services for those battling cancer (and their families).  These include consultations, massages, Reiki, acupuncture, counseling, and more.

This year's walk, run, and cycle event will take place on September 26th and 27th.  People will be able to take part in the event through both Strava and Zwift.
