The Weinstein Co. failed miserably with their last adaptation of a young-adult book franchise, 'Vampire Academy,' but perhaps they can turn it around with a beloved classic. The first 'The Giver' trailer has debuted online, giving us a look at a different futuristic dystopia, because we don't have enough of those already.

Up-and-comer Brenton Thwaites, who'll soon be known by all after his upcoming turns in Blumhouse's latest horror project 'Oculus' and Angelina Jolie's 'Unbroken,' takes the leading role of Jonas, a young boy who's living in a society where memories and emotions are extracted from people. Only The Receiver (Jeff Bridges) is allowed to remember everything, though when it's time to pass this duty to Jonas, the teen struggles with his responsibilities and, as these stories tend to turn out, he winds up upsetting the order.

Of course, besides Bridges, what film in this genre is complete without some more veteran stars. While 'Divergent' has its Kate Winslet, 'The Giver' has the one and only Meryl Streep! Oh, and don't forget about Katie Holmes, 'True Blood' star Alexander Skarsgard and, yes, Ms. Taylor Swift herself.

While on the surface, the 'Giver' trailer makes this film seem like yet another ploy to tap into the audience behind a popular book, 'The Giver' is based on Lois Lowry's award-winning novel of the same name that no doubt many Millennials read in elementary or middle school. So perhaps we can give this one the benefit of the doubt ... for now.

'The Giver' is set for release on August 15.
